Well, I can't actually tell if it's a cat or a dog. Which is a good thing, because that means it can be whatever you want it to be!
The blanket for this blankie is a granny square, and if you haven't made one before, you can find a tutorial here.
Pattern
Size and colours are of course up to you, but I used a crochet needle size 3. The blanket measures about 21 cm or little over 8 inches. The cat is about 4 cm or 1.5 inches.
Blanket
Make a granny square, with double (treble for UK) crochet stitches in clusters of three and two chain stitches for the corners.
The blanket is made with 16 rounds, but if you want to make another pattern for the stripes, you can also decrease to 15 rounds. The stripes are as follow:
Round 1-3: Pink
Round 4: White
Round 5: Purple
Round 6: White
Round 7-8: Blue
Round 9: White
Round 10-12: Pink
Round 13: White
Round 14: Blue
Round 15: White
Round 16: Purple*
*For the last round, you can make frills. To do that, you add a slip stitch between the clusters (use the stitch loops for the slip stitches) and increase to 4 double crochet stitches for the cluster. Replace the corners with 7 double crochet stitches.
Cat
Head
Pink
Start with 2 chain stitches. Make 6 single stitches in the first chain stitch. (6)
Round 1: Increase 6 times (12)
Round 2: *1 single crochet stitch (sc), increase (inc)* 6 times (18)
Round 3: *2 sc, inc* 6 times (24)
Round 4: *3 sc, inc* 6 times (30)
Round 5: *4 sc, inc* 6 times (36), fasten loose end
Round 6-8: 36 sc (36)
Round 9: *4 sc, decrease (dec)* 6 times (30)
Round 10: *3 sc, dec* 6 times (24)
Round 11: *2 sc, dec* 6 times (18)
Round 12: *1 sc, dec* 6 times (12)
Stuff the head.
Round 13: dec 6 times (6)
Finish with a slip stitch. Keep enough yarn to attach the head to the blanket.
Tip!
You can make a bigger head by increase up to 42 instead, and make 4 rounds of 42 before decreasing.

Round 2: *1 sc, inc* 6 times (18)

And your cute little blankie is done!
