This is usually the largest stitch you will use, and it is for example used for granny stitches and other large areas as it is a lot quicker than using single crochet stitches for the whole bag, or whatever you're making.
Although confusingly given different names in different parts of the worlds, the double and the treble crochet stitch is the same. Sort of, there is a US treble stitch too, but let's not make it too confusing. I will refer to it as a double crochet stitch.
To make a double crochet stitch, you bring the yarn over the crochet needle. You now have two loops on the needle (counting the one you started with).
Insert the needle through the stitch loops, pick up the yarn and pull through. You now have three loops on the needle.
Bring the yarn over the needle again, to make is four loops, and pull the new loop through the next two loops. You now have two loops.
Bring the yarn over the needle again and pull through the rest of the loops until there is only one left.
