Pumpkin

My plan was to make a really simple pumpkin pattern, but after I had made my pumpkin, I wasn't satisfied. It wasn't good enough. So I created this pattern, and the pumpkin turned out so cute! Also think it looks a bit like a peeled clementine or other citrus fruits, in case you feel like making that too.

Pattern

If you're a beginner and find this pattern a bit difficult, you can just crochet a ball instead and use this pattern for the stem. Only lightly stuff the ball, and then sew 6 big stitches from the bottom to the top to divide the ball in 6 parts.

The pumpkin is made with crochet needle size 3 mm and measures about 6 cm/2.5 inches wide and 3.5 cm/1.5 inches tall (not including stem).

Body

Chain 16 stitches. Start in the second stitch from the needle.

Row 1: 2 single crochet stitches (sc), 3 half double crochet stitches (hdc), *increase (inc), 1 stitch, inc, 1, stitch, inc* with double crochet stitches (dc), 3 hdc, skip the last 2 stitches of the chain [18]

Row 2: Only make 1 turning stitch, 3 hdc, *2 stiches, inc, 2 stitch, inc, 2 stitch* with dc, 3 hdc, skip the last to stitches [20]

Row 3: Make 1 turning stitch, 3 hdc, *2 stitches, decrease (dec), 2 stitches, dec, 2 stitches* with dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc in the last to stitches of the chain [18]

Row 4: Turning stitch, 3 hdc, *dec, 1 stitch, dec, 1 stitch, dec* with dc, 3 hdc, 2 sc in the last two stitches from row 2 [15]

Row 5: 15 sc [15]

Repeat row 1-5 5 more times (6 times in total). Don't cut of the yarn yet.

Stem

Continue in the pumpkin colour, form the body into a round shape, and then crochet along the upper edge (which is where you already are). Make the first stitch on the other side of what will be the stitch that closes the body.

Round 1: *1 sc, dec* 6 times [12]

Round 2: Dec 6 times [6]

Make 1 more sc to change to the stem colour. Leave tail of the pumpkin yarn to sew the seam of the body.

Round 3-6: 6 sc [6]

Round 7: Dec 2-3 times (as many times as you can), end with a slip stitch

Sew the side seam of the body. Weave in loose ends.

You now have a hole at the bottom of the pumpkin. Use the pumpkin yarn to pick up the yarn in one of the gaps, and then repeat round 1-2 of the steam. Add stuffing before the hole is too small. Leave tail for sewing.

Almost there, just need to shape the pumpkin a little. Use the tail you just left to sew 6 stitches on the inside from the centre bottom and the centre top (along the base of the stem) of the pumpkin to hold the bottom and top closer to each other. Weave in loose ends.

And your adorable pumpkin is done!
