What's Halloween without a witch hat? Or maybe only of your toys need a hat. Luckily, this pattern works for both.
Pattern
The hat is made with crochet needle size 3 mm and measure about 8 cm/3 inches tall and the same wide.
Crown
If you want to use this hat for a toy and don't want to add stuffing, skip the first 5 rounds, chain 30, close with a slip stitch and begin at round 6 instead.
Round 1: 2 chain stitches (ch), make 6 single crochet stitches (sc) in the second stitch from the needle [6]
Round 2: Increase (inc) 6 times [12]
Round 3: *1 sc, inc* 6 times [18]
Round 4: *2 sc, inc* 6 times [24]
Round 5: *3 sc, inc* 6 times [30]. Change to the band colour.
Round 6: Only use the inside loops. 30 sc [30]
Round 7: Use both loops again. 30 sc [30]
Round 8: *6 sc, decrease (dec), 5 sc, dec* 2 times [26]
Round 9: 26 sc [26]. Change to hat colour.
Round 10: *5 sc, dec, 4 sc, dec* 2 times [22]
Round 11: 22 sc [22]
Round 12: *4 sc, dec, 3 sc, dec* 2 times [18]
Round 13: 18 sc [18]. Start adding stuffing, and continue adding stuffing as you crochet the rest of the crown.
Round 14: *7 sc, dec* 2 times [16]
Round 15: 16 sc [16]
Round 16: *2 sc, dec* 2 times, *2 double crochet stitches [dc], dec]* 2 times [12]
Round 17: 6 sc, 6 dc [12]
Round 18: *1 sc, dec* 2 times, *2 dc, dec* 2 times [8]
Round 19: 4 sc, 4 dc [8]
Round 20: 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, 1 dc, dec, 1 dc [6]
Round 21-22: 6 sc [6]
Round 23: Dec 2-3 times (as many as you comfortably can).
End with slip stitch.
Brim
The brim is made in the other loops that are left from round 6 of the crown. Pick up the yarn in the centre back, in the first stitch of the round.
Round 1: *4 sc, inc* 6 times [36]
Round 2: *5 sc, inc* 6 times [42] Round 3: *6 sc, inc* 6 times [48]
Round 4: *7 sc, inc* 6 times [54] Round 5: *8 sc, inc* 6 times [60]
Round 6: *9 sc, inc* 6 times [66]
Round 7: 66 sc [66].
Optional to finish with a slip stitch and pick up the yarn again for the last round, but I got a better result from that. Can also make the last round in a different colour.
Round 8: 66 slip stitches along the edge to make it look more finished. Make sure to not make the stitches too tight, as slip stitches aren't elastic.
End with a slip stitch.
Weave in loose ends.
You can also decorate your hat by sewing on stars and spots and so on, or maybe keep it simple in all black.
