I'm really pleased with how this pattern turned out. I've only been making sitting dolls until now, but I like this pattern so much better! Especially if you don't want to add another layer of clothes to your doll, but trousers will also fit this doll much better.
I didn't want to make a "one size fits all" pattern, instead I want to give you a pattern that can have the hairstyle you want, and the clothes that you want. That is why I have made two different basic patterns (this standing doll, and a sitting doll), tutorials for different hairstyles, and also patterns for doll clothes.
The doll is made with crochet needle size 3 mm and measures about 27 cm or 10.5 inches.
Pattern
This pattern will make the same doll as is shown in the image, but you can easily change the outfit by altering where you change color. Note that this pattern will not show you how to make the hair, but you can find that tutorial here.
Head
Make 2 chain stitches with the skin color.
Round 1: 6 single crochet stitches (sc) in the second chain stitch from the needle [6]
Round 2: Increase (inc = 2 sc in the same loops) 6 times [12]
Round 3: *1 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [18]
Round 4: *2 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [24]
Round 5: *3 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [30]
Round 6: *4 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [36]
Round 7: *5 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [42]
Round 8: *6 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [48]
Round 9-15: 48 sc [48]
Round 16: *6 sc, 1 decrease (dec = 2 sc together)* 6 times [42]
Round 17: *5 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [36]
Round 18: *4 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [30]
Round 19: *3 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [24]
Round 20: *2 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [18]
End with a slip stitch and weave in the end.
Legs and body
Make 2 chain stitches with the skin color. (You can also make socks or shoes.)
Round 1: 6 sc in the second chain stitch from the needle [6]
Round 2: Inc 6 times [12]
Round 3: *1 sc, inc* 6 times [18]
Round 4: *2 sc, inc* 6 times [24]
Round 5-6: 24 sc [24]
Round 7: 7 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 7 sc [21]
Round 8: 6 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 7 sc [18]
Round 9: 6 sc, dec three times, 6 sc [15]
Round 10-41: 15 sc [15]
Change to bottom (trouser) color between round 24 and 25. You may want to add a few extra stitches before changing color to place the color change over the heel (approximately 2 extra stitches).
Make two legs. For the first leg, end with a slip stitch and weave in the end. For the second leg, you'll continue with the body. Start to add stuffing the leg, but not all the way up or it will get in the way.
Before starting on the body, you want to add stitches to get to the inside of the leg (approximately 10 extra stitches in total, or 8 extra after changing to the bottom color). To find the inside, point the foot straight towards you, and then flatten out the leg. You want to be in the stitch farthest to the right, which will be the inside of the left leg. This is your new starting point. You can add stitch mark if you want.
Next, do the same on the first leg. Flatten it and find the stitch farthest to the left with the foot pointing towards you.
Round 42: 3 chain stitches, 15 sc along the first leg (start in the stitch according to above), 3 sc along the chain (only use one of the loops), 15 sc along the second leg [36]
Before moving on, the beginning and end of round 42 should be in the (tiny bit off) centre back of the body. The feet should also be pointing forward.
Round 43: *5 sc, 1 inc* 6 times [42]
Round 44-58: 42 sc [42]
Change to the top color between round 47 and 48, or where ever you want the color change.
Add the last of the stuffing to the legs.
Round 59: *5 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [36]
Round 60-61: 36 sc [36]
Round 62: *4 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [30]
Round 63-64: 30 sc [30]
Round 65: *3 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [24]
Round 66-67: 24 sc [24]
Round 68: *2 sc, 1 dec* 6 times [18]
Change to the skin color.
Round 69-70: 18 sc [18]
End with a slip stitch and leave enough yarn to attach the body to the head (18 stitches).
Arms
Make 2 chain stitches with the skin color.
Round 1: 6 s in the second chain stitch from the needle [6]
Round 2: Inc 6 times [12]
Round 3: *3 sc, inc* 3 times [15]
Round 4: 15 sc [15]
Round 5: *3 sc, dec* 3 times [12]
Round 6: *4 sc, dec* 2 times [10]
Round 7-30: 10 sc [10]
Change to the top color between round 14 and 15, or you can change the sleeve length.
End with a slip stitch and leave enough yarn to attach the arm to the body.
Make two.
Assembly
Start by adding stuffing to the head and body. Make both pretty full to keep the shapes round. Sew the head and body together. You only need one stitch per loop, as in 18 stitches in total.
Next, add stuffing to the hands before sewing them on. You don't want any stuffing in the arms as that will make them stand out like a T. Use the back of the crochet needle to push the stuffing all the way down.
Lastly, sew on the face.
Hair and clothes
This pattern is just for the basic doll, but I have other patterns for hair and clothes which you can find here.
