This is actually the first pattern I improvised. I wanted to make a blankie, and as soon as I saw pictures of this adorable owl blankie, I knew I had to make one.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the pattern. It seemed the original pattern had been removed, because I found some broken links. But I still wanted to make this adorable owl, so I did. And now I want to share the pattern with you.
Although this may be my pattern, somebody else had the idea for it, and my owl is almost identical to the one I couldn’t find the pattern for. Just letting you know. But since the pattern is very simple, and I’m not selling the pattern, that is probably alright.
With that said, it’s time to make the blankie, and the blanket part of it is a granny square. If you haven’t made granny squares before, you can find a tutorial here.
Pattern
Size and colours are of course up to you, but I used a crochet needle size 3. The blanket measures about 21 cm or little over 8 inches. The owl is about 4 cm or 1.5 inches.
Blanket
Make a granny square, with double (treble for UK) crochet stitches in clusters of three and two chain stitches for the corners.
The blanket is made with 15 rounds, but if you want to make another pattern for the stripes, you can also increase to 16 rounds. The stripes are as follow:
Round 1-2: Blue
Round 3: White
Round 4-5: Purple
Round 6: White
Round 7-8: Pink
Round 9: White
Round 10-11: Orange
Round 12: White
Round 13-14: Yellow
Round 15: White*
*For the last round, you can make frills. To do that, you add a slip stitch between the clusters (use the stitch loops for the slip stitches) and increase to 4 double crochet stitches for the cluster. Replace the corners with 7 double crochet stitches. See tutorial video below.

Round 3: *2 sc, inc* 6 times (24)

Stuff the head.
Round 13: dec 6 times
Finish with a slip stitch. Keep enough yarn to attach the head to the blanket.
Tip!
You can make a bigger head by increase up to 42 instead, and make 4 rounds of 42 before decreasing.

Final steps
Attach the eyes and wings to the head, and the head to the blanket. Sew half circles in black on the eyes. Sew on the beak in yellow or orange.
Make horns by using one of each colour for the blanket. Use 3-6 threads, about 15 cm or 6 inches for each horn. Use the crochet needle to thread around a stitch on each side of the head. Tie a knot and cut the horns to desired length.
And enjoy your adorable little blankie.
